Wednesday 12 June 2024 Endangered instruments The oboe and bassoon, both taught by Mr Marshall, are beautiful but ‘endangered’ instruments. Often overlooked by instrumental learners, they have crucial roles to play in orchestras and concert bands and are extremely useful instruments to have being learned at school. We have a good quality oboe and bassoon in our instrumental stock and would encourage those interested to get in touch with Mr Coates. This would particularly suit younger first study piano players looking to add an orchestral instrument to their music making.

Thursday 21 December 2023 Reverse Advent Calendar - Foodbank Donations On Tuesday we collected all the boxes that pupils and staff had so kindly filled. Despite the rain the superstar girls in 8B & 8D helped me load the bus. There was a feast of goods and I felt a really warm feeling that as a school we had once again taken up the challenge of the Reverse Advent Calendar. And why not? After all It is a fun way of teaching pupils the importance of helping others and seeing the bigger picture at Christmas and more importantly that they have given a Christmas gift to someone that really needed it.

Monday 18 December 2023 STEM@Graveney with TILT Engineers On Wednesday 6th December Tilt engineering consultants brought their whole company of eight engineers to present workshops to year nine girls and A-level Physics students. They took part in concurrent sessions to learn about engineering in the rail industry. Students learned about what an engineer is, career opportunities and the best subjects and degrees to study to become an engineer. Students in the A-level session then designed a pantograph which connects electric trains to the overhead power lines. We had some really interesting designs made in a very short time. The year nine girls conducted some problem solving tasks to show the skills engineers use in their jobs. Feedback from the students was great and the engineers were really impressed with our students and look forward to seeing them in engineering jobs in the future.

Thursday 17 August 2023 CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR YEAR 13 STUDENTS ON THEIR A LEVEL SUCCESSES Congratulations to our Year 13 cohort of 334 students who have achieved some fantastic results today. We are so pleased that this cohort, whose education has been so severely impacted by the pandemic and who didn’t have the benefit of taking their GCSES have done so well with their A levels. In addition to taking our own Year 11 students into our sixth form, we took a further 60 or so students who weren’t able to access the sixth form provision in their own schools. Our 2023 results have validated this decision to give as many students as possible a chance to succeed with an A level programme.
