Vision
Maximising participation and inspiring commitment to excellence in physical education and sport.
Aims of Physical Education
Physical education is a vital part of the school curriculum. It provides planned and progressive learning opportunities that are accessible to every child. Through PE, we aim to develop not only physical skills and fitness but also resilience, teamwork, and a lifelong appreciation of the value of active, healthy living.
Our PE curriculum aims to:
- Develop movement competence and confidence across a broad spectrum of activities.
- Encourage students to evaluate and appreciate achievement and progression of movement skills, concepts, and strategies.
- Foster personal attributes and transferable life skills through purposeful, challenging, and enjoyable physical activity, including respect, communication, leadership, resilience, and commitment.
- Inspire students to adopt a lifelong habit of being active, applying their skills and knowledge both in and beyond school.
These aims reflect the building blocks of our PE curriculum: physical development, personal growth, and preparation for an active life.
Head, Hands, Heart – Our Key Stages of Learning
In PE, learning happens in different but connected ways. We focus on four key domains:
- Cognitive – thinking, reflecting, and applying knowledge.
- Physical - moving with confidence, skill, and purpose.
- Affective – developing positive feelings, motivation, and resilience.
- Social – building relationships, teamwork, and respect for others.
By integrating these domains, we take a holistic approach that supports every student’s individual journey and encourages lifelong participation in physical activity.
At Key Stage 3, our learning is structured around Head, Hands, Heart:
|
|
|
|
|
Head (Know) |
Hands (Show) |
Heart (Grow) |
|
Understanding the rules, strategies, and principles behind sports and physical activities. Thinking critically and reflecting on performance. |
Practising and demonstrating physical skills with confidence and competence. Learning through doing and refining techniques. |
Developing personal qualities like resilience, teamwork, and motivation. Celebrating effort, progress, and achievement. |
By combining knowledge, skills, and personal growth, our curriculum ensures that students leave each lesson not only fitter and more skilled but also more confident, resilient, and ready to enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle.
