Graveney Wins Green Flag Award!
Due to the passionate work of the LEAF eco-group, we are pleased to announce that Graveney has been awarded an Eco-Schools Green Flag award with distinction.
The group celebrated nature and sustainability all year and the Eco-Schools judges wrote that their application had been 'an absolute delight to assess'. The group has developed the Paul Osborne Garden from an area of overgrown wilderness behind Upper Science and it is now an orchard, vegetable garden and outdoor classroom; after trialling recipes they got more vegan dishes onto the canteen menu; they have grown and distributed a range of vegetables; they campaign, discuss and research constantly.
Graveney also had a successful Environment Week with external speakers and more speakers are invited soon. Residential trips on Outward Bound and to Jamie's Farm provided connection to nature for year 7. All teachers are working hard to incorporate green ideas and skills into their lessons to prepare pupils for future life on a changing planet, and pupils are involved in this process too.
Your application has been an absolute delight to assess. You’ve made an incredible impact in your school and local community and serve as an inspiration to all.
Congratulations on earning the Eco-Schools’ Green Flag with Distinction 2024
